Phyllanthus niruri is a widespread tropical plant commonly found in coastal areas, known by the common names gale of the wind, stonebreaker or seed-under-leaf. It is in the genus Phyllanthus of the family Phyllanthaceae.Believed to cool and soothe the digestive tract, Bhumyamalaki has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for more than 2,000 years. Also known in Portuguese as “Quebra-Pedra,” or “stonebreaker,” it is found among tribal herbal remedies in tropical cultures.A 1990 Brazilian study reported that humans with kidney stones, given a simple Bhumyamalaki tea for one to three months, showed a reduction or elimination of the stones.
