Juniper berry oil is distilled from the dried ripe berry of the juniper tree. Juniper berry oil has a fresh, warm, balsamic, woody-pine needle odor. It is used with citrus oils in room sprays and in masculine and outdoorsy perfumes, after shaves and spicy colognes.

Aromatherapy benefits: supportive, restoring.

Some traditional uses: to energize and relieve exhaustion, ease inflammation and spasms, for improving mental clarity and memory, purifying the body, to lessen fluid retention, for disinfecting.

It is considered non-toxic but since it can stimulate the uterine muscle it should not be used during pregnancy, nor by people with kidney problems. It is non-sensitizing but some people do have a reaction to it, and it is generally wise to us this oil in moderation.

The therapeutic properties of Juniper oil include: antiseptic, anti-spasmodic, astringent, carminative, diuretic, emmenagogue, depurative and tonic. The 1997 Commission E on Phytotherapy and Herbal Substances of the German Federal Institute for Drugs recommends Juniper berry for 'Dyspepsia.'

Juniper oil can help calm the nerves, relieves anxiety, nervous tension and mental exhaustion. It is helpful with relieving urine when the prostate gland is enlarged and in cases of cystitis, inability to pass urine and kidney stones.

It is also helpful for cellulite and fluid retention. Juniper generally helps with the digestive system, particularly with obesity, over-indulgence of food and premenstrual bloating.

It is a tonic to the liver; helps regulate the menstrual cycle and eases painful period pains.

Juniper oil helps to eliminate uric acid and relieves pain in cases of gout, rheumatism and arthritis.

Not only is Juniper oil used for acne, eczema, oily skin, psoriasis and dandruff, it is also an insect repellant.
