Marjoram, Wild Essential Oil, 1/3 fl oz

Wild marjoram oil is actually distilled not a variety of marjoram but from a species of wild thyme which grows in Spain. Also called mastic thyme and Spanish wild marjoram.

The oil has a strong, sweet-spicy, eucalyptus fragrance and is used in small amounts in massage oils for its invigorating, tension-easing effect.

The leaves, and especially the essential oil contained in them, are strongly antiseptic, deodorant and disinfectant. The oil is also used extensively as a flavouring for soups and stews.

Warming; improves circulation; relaxing, calms nervous tension; promotes a restful sleep; the vapors open sinus and breathing passages, especially helpful during colds and nasal congestion; improves digestion; relaxes tense muscles, relieves aches, pains, painful menstruation, inflammation, and spasms; disinfectant.

Due to the relaxing effect of the oil, marjoram should not be used before driving or doing anything that requires full attention. In large amounts, marjoram can be stupefying on the mind.

Essential and resin oils are volatile, fragrant materials extracted from the root, bark, wood, seed, fruit, leaf or flower of a single plant. Essential oils contain the odor, taste and medicinal properties of the plant itself, but in very concentrated form, with no base oil, alcohol, water or dilutants added.

Steam distillation and cold pressing are used to extract the essential oil from the plant.
