Properties: bitter, cold, slightly toxic, LI, Stomach -- It is noted in the 3rd Edition of Chinese Herbal Medicine: Materia Medica by Bensky, Clavey and Stoger that, "[Lei Wan] is traditionally used in powders and pills so the raw herb is rarely, if ever, used in decoction. Modern research backs this up, as the purported active ingredient loses its efficacy when exposed to heat."
